Job Duties

The Business Intelligence Analyst will lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of complex dashboards, analyses, visualizations, and code related to our higher education clients.

Reporting to the Director, Analytics & Data Governance, you will provide expertise and insight to engage and stimulate increased client utilization of Academic Analytics solutions as strategic assets in client decision-making and program assessment.

The ideal candidate for this role would be a data professional with at least three years of professional experience working in an analytical role with a data visualization/business intelligence focus at a university or in the education sector. This role has significant opportunities for creative problem solving and the exercise of independent judgment and is not an entry-level position.

The candidate would be joining a diverse team of data specialists, with backgrounds across institutional research, faculty and student success, institutional operations, and private industry. This team environment blends a highly collaborative team culture with significant opportunities for independent work and collaborates with other teams across Academic Analytics in a dynamic client service operation.

Position Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with internal and client stakeholders in the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data using data querying and development.
  • Designs and develops new reports, dashboards, data tables, and various other internal and client deliverables.
  • Enhances the efficiency, automation, and accuracy of existing reports.
  • Works cross functionally on business solutions to develop and deliver sophisticated and creative analytic solutions that support strategic business initiatives.
  • Follows best practices in data querying and manipulation to ensure data integrity.
  • Effectively communicates information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for data collection, analysis, and reporting relating to faculty activity management data.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s or PhD in a quantitative field is a plus
  • Minimum of 3 years of data analysis/business intelligence experience
  • Working knowledge of higher education policies and procedures
  • Extensive experience using Tableau Desktop and SSMS
  • Strong SQL development experience, including writing SQL queries and stored procedures. Experience with SSIS preferred
  • Knowledge of data warehousing principles and best practices
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas and present data to a variety of internal and external audiences
  • Understanding of basic statistics and research methods

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or minimum of 4 years of data analysis/business intelligence experience
  • Experience with higher education accreditation; institutional research experience a plus
  • Experience with faculty activity management/faculty information systems, promotion and tenure policies, and academic program review a plus
  • Experience with SAS
  • Experience with SSRS, Power BI or DevExpress Reports (or equivalent reporting tool)
