Data Analyst and Visualization Developer

Job Duties

Essential Functions

  • Supports the data collection systems, analytics, and reports for AIHEC Student Success Team.
  • Serves as data liaison building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to create and sustain a culture of data use that supports continuous improvement and the adoption of new data processes.
  • Develops and manages survey tools.
  • Supports developing, maintaining, and managing databases around TCUs (e.g., a database of TCU courses and degrees offered,) and work with other higher education databases (e.g., IPEDS, PDP, etc.), including data extraction, validation, and cleaning.
  • Designs, codes, tests, and aggregates results from queries to generate complex analyses, reports, dashboards, and visualizations that support decision making and planning at all levels of the organization.
  • Assures the accuracy and integrity of data.
  • Prepares regular reports, dashboards, and visualizations for AIHEC Board meetings, congress, federal agencies, national organizations, and private-sector funding sources.
  • Assists in support and training with end users to maximize their ability to use the decision support system and/or dashboards.
  • Supports data analysis for Student Success research projects, program evaluation, and/or ad hoc requests from AIHEC business units.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking studies to support institutional effectiveness, accreditation, and compliance requirements.
  • Establish and maintain data governance policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure data integrity, security, and privacy compliance.
  • Stay current with trends and best practices in higher education data analytics, data visualization, and institutional research.
  • Offers ideas for new data processes based on research and learn up-to-date knowledge of the data science industry and related topics.
  • Knowledge of higher education issues, as well as issues regarding research in American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) or other Indigenous communities and Tribal nations.

Job Qualifications

Required Education and Experience (minimum qualifications):

  • Must hold a Master’s degree focused on data science, statistics, computer science, information systems, business analytics or business intelligence, or other related discipline.  PhD degree preferred.
  • At least three years of experience in higher education in an Institutional Research or Institutional Effectiveness office (or related work);
  • Knowledge of federal higher education research, reporting instruments, and databases
  • Strong oral and written communication skills essential.
  • Commitment to ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism in institutional research activities and data analysis.
