JOB SUMMARY:
The position of Director for Institutional Research is a full-time, twelve-month appointment. Reporting to the Vice President of Enrollment Management, the Director is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing a comprehensive program of institutional research activities in support of university-wide compliance, accreditation, research initiatives, data governance, planning and assessment. S/he provides support for key university functions including enrollment management, student success, strategic planning, academic programming, university advancement and more through analyses, dashboards, research, and reporting. The Director promotes a 
data-driven campus culture by ensuring the availability and integrity of institutional analyses, improving access to information through automation, serving on key campus committees, and working collaboratively with data stewards across the university.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Planning

  • Collaborate with university leadership to develop and implement an institutional research strategy aligned with the university’s mission, goals and priorities.
  • Provide data informed recommendations to support long-term planning and decision-making.

Reporting and Analysis:

  • Oversee the collection, management and analysis of institutional data related to enrollment, retention, graduation rates, graduation rates, student demographics, faculty productivity and other relevant external and internal reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and accrediting agency reporting requirements. (e.g., IPEDS, SURE, MSCHE, USNews, etc).
  • Utilize statistical methods and data visualization tools to interpret findings and present insights to various stakeholders.

Surveys and Studies:

  • Coordinate institution-wide surveys (e.g., NSSE, HEDS) for institutional effectiveness.

Data Management:

  • Serve as the central resource for institutional data and strategic indicators.
  • Oversee Middle States evaluation data collection.

Technology & Systems:

  • Stay current on technological advancements in institutional research and implement tools to enhance data collection, analysis, and reporting processes.
  • Manage and maintain institutional research databases and systems.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate internally to prevent data duplication.
  • Work with faculty and staff to design tools for data collection and surveys.

Data Compilation and Analysis:

  • Compile, analyze, and verify data accuracy for decision-making and planning.

Reporting to Leadership:

  • Provide relevant reports, data integration, and analyses to the president and cabinet.

Fact Book and Reporting:

  • Create and interpret the annual Fact Book.
  • Complete confidential faculty/staff reporting.

Response Management:

  • Respond to internal and external requests for surveys, reports, and ad hoc inquiries promptly and accurately.
  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • 3 -5 years of successful experience in a College or University Office of Institutional Research.
  • Demonstrated experience with qualitative and quantitative academic research.
  • Extensive knowledge of statistics and data analysis.
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis and data visualization using SPSS, Tablau or other statistical/data visualization software packages.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Federal and State reporting requirements and definitions.
  • Experience with collecting, analyzing and disseminating information for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to synthesize and present information to assist with strategic decision making.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; ability to engage diverse constituencies using a variety of styles and techniques appropriate to inform or persuade the intended audience.
  • Strong project management skills (whether individual or leading a team).
  • Experience working with college/university ERP system, Colleague preferred.
  • Superior organizational skills: ability to manage and meet deadlines for multiple projects concurrently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the mission and objectives of private higher education and the institutional needs and challenges of small institutions.
