Job dutiesPOSITION DESCRIPTION
The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking an Assistant Director of Research Administration to join our team of professionals.
Duties Include:
• Plans, designs and implements research, assessment, and evaluation studies to support patient recruitment.
• Collects blood samples and provides the necessary information to the investigators in the lab.
• Supports Principal Investigators (PIs) with Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) submissions in review of research expenditures and grant administration. Maintains compliance with local, regional, state and federal guidelines
• Confers with study participants to explain purpose of the study and obtain informed consent, designs and administer confidential questionnaires to obtain relevant health and drug history.
• Analyzes clinical and animal data to create reports that serve as supporting documentation for quarterly and yearly reports required by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and other funding agencies.
• Ensures that all forms and recruitment materials are approved by the IRB/IBC/IACUC. Manages data entry and data storage for all data pertaining to human subjects. Analyzes participant data for federal progress reports.
• Maintains confidential coding system to ensure participant confidentiality and best research practices.
• Reports correct number of patient recruitments in order to assure timely submission of progress reports of grants to NIH.
• Serves as a liaison with internal and external entities for research related matters and develops initiatives to foster collaborations within FIU, clinical partners, and other academic institutions.
• In conjunction with the Chair, coordinates, completes and oversees the completion of various institutional, agency, state and federal reports, questionnaires and surveys, such as annual progress reports for all the active grants in the department along with milestone reports, and annual reports for the Institute of NeuroImmune Pharmacology (INIP).
• Monitors and develops reports and conducts research to satisfy ad-hoc queries from administrators, faculty and external institutions.
• Develops and manages departmental business processes aligned with FIU policies and procedures to support research, assessment and reporting activities.
• Works closely with Chair and the Department of Research in the development of contracts and MOU's with other local and international institutions.
• Leads and coordinates departmental research dissemination activities, including activities related to the INIP such as symposiums, and conferences. Promotes a team approach to manage large scale and multidisciplinary research proposals and projects. Supports PIs in the preparation and submission of proposals to external funders, ensuring compliance with university policies as well as any relevant agency policies.
• Act as liaison between the department and internal and external entities for student related programs, included but not limited to RISE and HWCOM summer fellowships.
• Provides guidance and expertise on research policies, procedures and regulations to Principal Investigators (PIs) and other personnel in the Department of Immunology.
• Supervises procurement for labs and the department; including review and approval of requisitions and service contracts.
• Collaborates and work closely with COM Research Administration and the University's Office of Research and Economic Development.
• Performs essential duties in emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. Is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification from a department administrator.
• Performs related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of management experience or a Master's degree and four (4) years of management experience.
