Job dutiesABOUT THE JOB

The Principal Research Analyst will use advanced professional concepts and organizational objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Applies full understanding of internal and external policies and procedures. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Will contribute to a collaborative, customer service oriented, and dynamic team while striving to meet the analytic and reporting needs of the campus.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Works closely with various campus units, faculty, administrators, and external constituents, to understand data and reporting needs and comply with reporting requirements (federal, State, UC System, accrediting bodies, and campus).

2. Creates, manages, and maintains complex data files containing internal and external data from a variety of sources.


3. Prepares reports, tables, data visualizations and other presentation materials. Researches, gathers, analyzes and summarizes information for research projects with a broad range of internal and external and / or current and historical information.

4. Designs and conducts research, using appropriate research methodologies and statistics, and making recommendations based on analyses.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience in a social science field with experience in social science research setting or 9 years of relevant experience.

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and organizational skills.

- Customer service focus with strong interpersonal skills.

- Must be able to work on multiple projects concurrently and work within deadlines.

- Must be able to work independently and within a team and handle sensitive data professionally.

- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to help non-expert data users consume and understand data in order to make it actionable.

- Facile with and open to using new tools like Tableau for data sharing and visualization.

- Experience with statistics and research methodology.

- Experience with instructional activity/curriculum/data.

- Experience with survey design, administration, and reporting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Ph.D. or advanced degree (e.g., Ed.D, Master's) in social science field with experience in social science research setting (preferably higher education, especially institutional research).

- Experience with the following tools: Tableau, R, SPSS, and Qualtrics.

- Experience with modernizing data systems to support reporting.

- Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding privacy of data as well as knowledge of higher education issues desirable.
Salary range$80,000 - $100,000
