Job dutiesROLE of the POSITION
The IT Assessment Specialist provides the assessment expertise to build an organizational culture of assessment and metric-driven IT decision-making, including contributing to ongoing staff development on assessment practices. The individual collaborates with IT leadership in developing surveys, focus groups and other strategies to assess existing services, uncover emerging needs, and foster a collaborative environment. In addition to developing assessments, the specialist is responsible for analyzing the rich qualitative and quantitative data that reflects user satisfaction, performance of services and unmet needs, and reporting results in a manner that is accurate, compelling, and actionable. Working with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and UNLV IT governance groups, this position will be key to developing evidence-based strategic technology planning and customer-focused continuous improvement of the university's technology environment.

This is a key support position for the university IT Master Plan, a strategic plan that guides rollout of new technologies. The individual is expected to synthesize data from a variety of sources to assess awareness and impact of technology initiatives, improve the transparency of IT decision-making, and encourage dialogue with key campus constituents. The Assessment Specialist maintains a thorough knowledge of UNLV's campus vision, the university's Top Tier strategic goals, IT Master Plan initiatives, and OIT directions. This employee's broad strategic knowledge will be used to bring a university perspective to technology service enhancements. This person works closely with IT strategic communication, IT project management, and strategic planning staff to help UNLV's technology leaders optimize the university's technology environment to support UNLV's rise to a Top Tier institution.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Leading the design and implementation of surveys, focus groups, and other methodologies to collect input from stakeholders
• Collecting, analyzing, and presenting satisfaction and use data, as well as other assessments, to facilitate its use in decision-making and service improvements
• Designing and co-authoring executive presentations, keynotes, strategic reports, and proposals that highlight assessment findings
• Synthesizing constituent responses regarding technical needs and presenting it succinctly in a manner that enables non-technical audiences to recognize the possibilities technology changes present for student success, research and community engagement.
• Developing workforce surveys that evaluate efforts to build community among university IT staff
• Assessing campus awareness of how available technology can maximize student, faculty, and staff productivity
• Improving transparency of IT priorities and associated strategic objectives
• Timely reporting of IT data to outside agencies such as EDUCAUSE, the National Science Foundation, and campus accreditation agencies
Education: This position requires a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Experience: This position requires a minimum of 3 years of comparable professional experience.
The incumbent will demonstrate:
• Knowledge and expertise in developing assessment strategies
• Advanced knowledge of survey question creation
• Ability to glean audience-specific information from large data sets
• Excellent analytical and statistical skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• History of success completing detail-oriented tasks within timelines
• Proficiency using one or more software tools in each of the following areas (survey, statistical, graphic, presentation, qualitative data evaluation)
The incumbent will have experience with:
• Tying assessments to outcomes
• Leading evaluation of standardized assessments
• Developing assessments that inform strategic planning
• Conducting qualitative and quantitative assessment both in-person and electronically
• Developing and maintaining data collections
• Adjusting presentation style and content to maximize comprehension of audiences from student, to faculty, to C-level
• Editing content for improved readability and impact
• Designing innovative, compelling reports, graphs, dashboards and presentations to communicate findings
• Implementing staff development activities to increase data-driven decision making
Finally, the incumbent is expected to have excellent interpersonal skills, be able to work as part of a team to co-author and co-design assessment instruments, and also work independently with minimal supervision. The individual in this position must exemplify the values of the university, demonstrate a commitment to service, and assist staff in reflecting the value of service in their day-to-day activities.

Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. The position is contingent upon funding with a minimum starting salary of $77,000.
